Credit Repair: If it 's Not Broken, Fix it Anyway!

Credit Repair: Have you ever tried to fix your own credit?

You may have applied for credit and got denied.

After a few days, you got a letter in the mail from one of the 3 national credit bureaus: Experian, Equifax, or Transunion.

You followed their instructions and ordered a copy of your credit report.

Next, you contacted the credit bureau and was placed on hold forever and eventually disputed the negative credit information. About two months later they sent you a reply stating the creditor has "verified the information as being reported correctly".

So nothing got accomplished. Am I right?

They are For Profit Businesses...

This happens all the time. Here's why: first of all, Experian, Equifax and Transunion are not Government agencies like most people think.

They are private companies in business to sell your credit information for a profit.

So all they do is collect information from your creditors and report it to businesses that pay them a fee for credit checks.

Regardless of what information is on your credit report, they get paid.

So the credit bureaus don't really care if your information gets corrected or not; although the Fair Credit Reporting Act does prohibit them from reporting inaccurate information.

But they hope to frustrate you enough to leave them alone and just let them continue to report whatever information is in their system.

WHAT ABOUT CREDIT REPAIR COMPANIES?

There are some good ones and some bad ones. A really good credit repair company, that I personally trust and recommend, is DuBose Credit Solutions.

I am an attorney experienced in consumer protection laws and I co-founded the company. We designed a very simple and effective credit restoration process that takes advantage of the consumer protection laws on behalf of our clients. Our pricing is reasonable and our services come with a money back guarantee.

CAN'T I DO IT MYSELF?

However, you can also do it yourself. If you choose this route, you should download an easy to use credit repair software to help you to organize all your information.

You can print dispute letters to mail to the credit bureaus, your creditors, and collection companies.

There are quite a few software products out there, but I recommend you use Credit Detailer at www.creditdetailer.com.

This software is easy to use and it also comes with a lot of information and support to help you better understand how to repair your credit yourself.

IDENTITY THEFT PROTECTION

Whether you decide to hire a credit repair company or do it yourself, it is important that you go to www.annualreport.com and order your free credit reports once a year and review them for accuracy and identity theft prevention.

You may also want to consider subscribing for identity theft protection at www.privacyguard.com. The benefit is you get online access to your 3 bureau credit report and all 3 credit scores at anytime.

Also, you'll receive emailed alerts of any changes to your credit information immediately.

This helps you to stay on top of your credit and make sure no one has committed identify theft, or used your informatioin to apply for credit without your permission.

The bottom line is, despite what the credit bureaus will tell you, it is possible to repair your credit and get negative information removed.

Just remember, the credit bureaus are private companies prohibited by law from reporting inaccurate information.

So they have the burden to prove the information they report about you is accurate. You have the right to make them prove it.

So, if it's not broken, fix it anyway!
